The Hottest Fashion Trends of 2023 – A Comprehensive Guide

HomeLifestyleFashionThe Hottest Fashion Trends of 2023 - A Comprehensive Guide

From mermaid vibes to fringe, 2023’s fashion trends are sure to sparkle. From subtle detailing along cuffs and hemlines to all-over full-fringe drama, this trend will add flair to your summer looks.

Personal stylist Susan Padron expects Y2K-inspired transparent details to stick around for shoes, bags and clothing. She recommends trying out a metallic midi skirt with sneakers for daytime chic or heels for date night.

1. Sculptural design

From a frothy ‘naked’ dress revealing undergarments spotted at Tory Burch to lace-cut blouses with heart appliqué seen at Naeem Khan and Proenza Schouler, this boldly romantic trend is ideal for wedding guest dresses and nailing what to wear to summer events. Lace fabric also lends itself to feminine interpretations such as pretty frocks, while laser-cut styles encapsulate the romantic style with a more modern finish and work well when teamed with tailored jackets.

Stylists also expect to see tassel detailing on shoes, bags and dresses. The elegant elaboration works perfectly when paired with neutrals such as this Eloquia Asymmetrical Placket Dress in Silver. It also adds a pop of color to monochrome outfits.

2. Fringe

Fashion trends 2023 saw a variety of textures taking over the runway. From ethereal feathers and mesh plastic tubes to tassels, fringing and all manner of ruching, tactile fabrics brought textural interest to everyday wardrobe staples like white dress shirts and tailored jackets.

Oversized clothing has been a favorite of the style set for a while, but for spring and summer, designers took this look to a new level. From crop tops paired with oversized denim jackets to high-waisted bra top dresses, this trend offers endless styling possibilities.

Another carryover from last year, this year’s glam utility trend goes beyond the shapeless cargo pants of Y2K with fitted silhouettes and elevated fabrics. From a satin jumpsuit with a dramatic full fringe at PatBo to a ruched and tassel-detailed silky gown at Erdem, a little bit of this glam utilitarian trend can elevate any look.

3. Oversized clothing

Oversized clothing made its mark on the runways in a variety of silhouettes. Stella McCartney tapped into the cargo trend with khaki mini skirts that have that 00’s utility feel, while Christopher Kane incorporated vinyl body braces and lace bra cups for a shapewear effect in dress bodices. Crop tops and longline bralettes work well with oversized blazers for a chic yet casual look, while high-waisted denim midi skirts like this one from Reformation pair perfectly with flats or heels depending on the weather.

Pink hues were everywhere on the 2023 runways from Barbiecore pink to softer pastel and coral interpretations. Maxi dresses are the easiest way to embrace this feminine trend. For a party-ready option try this Ariana dress in light grey metallic.

4. Mini skirts

As summer brings vacations, weddings and more occasions than you can fit in your calendar, knowing what’s on trend is key to avoiding those dreaded “nothing to wear” moments. Thankfully, 2023 trends are larger than life – from floral dresses to thigh skimming minis, oversized statement blooms are the ultimate wardrobe refresh.

Bubble hems took center stage on the runway, with maxi versions spotted at Bibhu Mohapatra and Naeem Khan while Proenza Schouler and Ulla Johnson offered red carpet-ready iterations that will make for perfect party pieces. If you’re looking for a less dramatic take on the trend, look to tasseled knits and skirts that offer a more bohemian finish.

5. Tassel detailing

Another trend that has a long shelf life, fringe was fully embraced on dresses and party pieces. It evoked memories of a more bohemian period and was spotted at Erdem, Susan Fang and Paul & Joe.

Ruffles big and small continued to adorn fashion trends 2023, delivering a feminine and romantic feel to occasionwear. They also play into the dopamine dressing trend that dominated last year.

While tie-dye is still a popular choice for casual dressing, designers like Altuzarra upgraded the look with more delicate dip-dye detailing. It adds a more sophisticated look to floral prints and looks great layered over denim shirts and trousers. It’s a perfect way to add interest and contrast to your outfits this season.
