So you want to be an event planner, but you’re not sure how? Here’s how to become an event planner in 5 easy steps.

1. Start by learning about the industry and what it’s like to be an event planner. Find out what events are common, what types of people attend these events, and what types of things they like at these kinds of events.

2. Next, find out where your local market is and what kind of events are happening there right now—that way, when you do get started making money as an event planner, you’ll already know what people are looking for in their events!

3. Then go get some experience in the industry by working with a local organizer who needs help with their event planning or building their business. You can even volunteer at one of their events if they give you a chance!

4. Once you’ve got some experience under your belt and feel ready for it (and hopefully have saved up some money to pay for some training), start applying for jobs wherever possible!

Careers as a traditional event planner

Traditionally, event planning jobs have always been a manual, back-and-forth kind of situation for a lot of professionals. Constant communication and keeping updated with clients is the main chunk of your time in the production phase of an event, all the way up to even after the event. There are many ways to communicate digitally with your clients whether through email or social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter or Instagram or WhatsApp or any other number of apps out there today—the point is that there needs to be another option available if you’re looking for something more efficient than emailing one client at a time about their needs and wants when it comes time to plan an event!

These certifications provide even more knowledge about how events are put together—and they’re good steps toward becoming a full-fledged event planner.

Find your niche 

There’s no doubt about it: event planning is a growth industry.

Whether you’re an event planner who’s looking for a new challenge or you’re just starting out in the business, there’s no shortage of opportunity. And while there will always be opportunities in event planning for generalists, developing a specialty is common as an event planner’s career develops. This is particularly true for event planners who launch their own businesses.
